Isn't it wonderful that our military, we, will soon be able to bomb people from 12,000 miles away? Just think, we can hire a bunch of young guys and girls to play real war rather than their video games. And what do you think of the name they have chosen for this new play-toy weapon? Reaper. Just makes you want to go our and hug one, doesn't it, hoping that it will help mow the lawn or something. God, these people are disgusting.
Next, the Catholic Cardinal announced that his Catholic diocese will pay $600 Million in settlement of allegations of clergy sex abuse. Whatever I say here is going to be misconstrued, but here goes, anyway. That's a chunk of change, folk. Cardinal Mahony says that they will have to "sell buildings, use some of its invested funds, and borrow money." Who do you think they expect to repay those borrowed monies? Why the congregations that were abused, that's who. That's akin to asking a victim to pay for the attacker's lawyer. Or, only slightly tongue in cheek, asking and expecting Iraq to give up its oil revenues to Halliburton to pay for the cost of the war. Oh wait, that's what we're doing over there.
Just as I sometimes wonder how the billions we have sent to Iraq could have been better used in alleviating poverty, on medical research and cure, - the list is endless, and growing - I wonder how those millions could have been better used in the streets of Los Angeles, towards the same ends.
And lastly, the Guardian reports that Cheney has won the struggle within the administration, and Iran is next on our target list. Oh goody, we can send in "The Reaper", and not have to have anyone within 12,000 miles!
I read something beside the Guardian's report about this last night, but can't find it this morning. The Guardian's report is effective. It begins:
The balance in the internal White House debate over Iran has shifted back in favour of military action before President George Bush leaves office in 18 months, the Guardian has learned.
The shift follows an internal review involving the White House, the Pentagon and the state department over the last month. Although the Bush administration is in deep trouble over Iraq, it remains focused on Iran. A well-placed source in Washington said: "Bush is not going to leave office with Iran still in limbo."
Bush shouldn't worry. His legacy is intact. He is without a doubt the worst President in the last 100 years, and likely ever. He is a middle-to-low intelligence dupe, without the brains to pour piss out of a boot with the directions on the heel and a spigot on the toe. He is criminally intense on exerting power, and on wrapping the office he desecrates in it.
I find it interesting that the three options for Iran are:
The choices are: tell Israel no, let Israel do the job, or do the job yourself."
They seem to be neglecting a fourth option, doing nothing. Iran is not the ogre that the Bush administration has portrayed it to be. Given time for its people to rid themselves of their President, and they seem to be moving toward that in polls, the problem will go away.
This morning's news has been interesting, if not particularly appealing. I long for a day in which the worst news is that there was a traffic jam on I-40.
